You may wish to designate your campaign gift toward a specific campaign goal, and the Center has identified a variety of opportunities for you to make specific contributions to the Center's fellowship, education, and outreach programs. Some of these opportunities are briefly described below.
The Center is pleased to recognize donors making significant gifts to the campaign, from named scholarship funds to dedication of Center facilities. The Center's development staff will work directly with donors interested in making a significant gift to the campaign. If you would like more information about available naming opportunities, please contact Carol Vorhaus, Director of Development, at (919) 549-0661 (x101) or by e-mail, cvorhaus@nationalhumanitiescenter.org
The Fellow's Fellowship Endowment. The Center seeks gifts of all sizes that can be paid over 3-5 years, as well as bequests, to endow this fellowship. We hope that all former Fellows and others will contribute. Details about the Fellows' Fellowship are available here.
Scholarly Conversations. For a gift of $10,000 a donor may underwrite a one-time scholarly gathering. Part of a new initiative to advance fresh ideas and extend awareness of the humanities, a conversation will involve scholars gathering to explore an emerging issue of common concern.
Symposium. For a gift of $25,000 a donor may underwrite a one-time scholarly gathering that is open to a public audience for discussion of a specific, well-defined topic.
Symposium and Conversation Series. For $700,000 a donor may underwrite a new initiative to advance fresh ideas, extend public awareness of the humanities, and advance the careers of Fellows. This initiative will involve two events per year, one featuring a well-defined topic that would attract an audience of both scholars and the public and the second a more intimate event reserved for scholars to explore an emerging issue of common concern.
Topics for conversation and symposium events will be generated by the Center's Fellows, past and present, and subject to a peer review selection process.
Online Seminar. For $5,000 a donor may fund one of the Center's live, online professional development seminars that allow high school teachers to interact with leading university scholars of American history, literature, and culture.
Toolbox Endowment. For a gift of $100,000 or more a donor may name and fund the development of a collection of primary resources for teachers. A collection or "toolbox" will include historical documents, literary texts, and works of art thematically organized with notes and discussion questions to energize and enhance lesson preparation and classroom interactions.
Online Seminar Series Endowment. For $500,000 a donor may name a regional or thematic series of professional development seminars for teachers of American history, literature, and culture. These seminars seek to improve teacher content knowledge, promote discussion-based instruction, and provide fresh material for use with students.
The National Humanities Center relies on its endowment to fund approximately 50% of its annual budget, and gifts of any size are welcomed and encouraged.
Scholar's Study Endowment. For $50,000 a donor may name a study at the National Humanities Center. Generations of Fellows will benefit from this contribution to the Center. Several opportunities are available.
Conference Room Endowment. A gift of $100,000 would enable the Center to refurbish and maintain a conference room for gatherings of 15-20 people. These multi-purpose rooms host periodic seminars for local scholars, weekly study groups for current Fellows, and intimate conversations for scholars from around the world. Two rooms are available for naming.
Other naming opportunities may be furnished upon request.
